Activity-based Analysis of Travel Demand Using Cognitive Agents

چکیده

This work reports on the use of cognitive agents to support the activity-based analysis of demand generation in urban traffic networks. Albeit motorists show reactive behaviour in many situations, for instance when they are effectively driving, interacting with others and with the traffic environment, in this work demand is regarded as the result of the cognitive process carried out by each individual of the population. The approach proposed allows for the diversity of activity parameters that may influence daily journeys decision-makings. The preliminary experiments are aimed at demonstrating the expressiveness of the cognitive model proposed in practically designing and implementing activity-based travel demand. Emphasis is initially given to analysing scheduled delay at activity destinations accounting for arrival time constraints, while different selection behaviours for departure time are simulated within a framework that combines a multi-agent demand model with the microscopic representation of the movement. Simulation results have shown that drivers are more likely to meet activity arrival constraints with an absolute earliness-lateness tolerance window than when tolerance thresholds are relative to travel time.

Determination of Effective Travel Variables on Air Transport Demand with Using Structural Equation

Air transport system has always been involved in all aspects of life because of its high potential in transporting passengers and goods. In this research we surveys the effects of travel variables on demand of domestic air transport, and for gathering required information from passengers, a questionnaire was designed including 20 effective parameters on air transport demand with questions These...

Assessing Transportation Policy Using an Activity-based Microsimulation Model of Travel Demand

Travel demand models have been providing decision-support for transportation infrastructure planning over the past half-century. However, with limited opportunities for new highway and transit infrastructure in congested areas, “demand-oriented” policy measures (e.g. travel demand management), which allow for more efficient usage of existing road and transit capacity, require improved methods o...

Anticipating Welfare Impacts via Travel Demand Forecasting Models: Comparison of Aggregate and Activity-Based Approaches for the Austin, Texas Region

A great disparity exists between the direction of travel demand forecasting by researchers, and the travel demand models used by transportation planning organizations. Activity-based models of travel demand have become increasingly studied in the academic realm and significant advances have been made in recent years. However, travel demand forecasting tools used in practice have lagged behind, ...

Social interactions in transportation: analyzing groups and spatial networks

Travel demand is derived from activities that people have to or want to engage in. Work trips have been a primary concern for transportation researchers and an early focus of transportation modeling was on commuting behavior (Ben-Akiva and Lerman 1974; Train 1980). Subsequently, non-work activities, such as shopping or doctor visits, increasingly caught the attention of transportation analysts,...

A Study of Factors Influencing Demand For Travel to Iran

In this paper the factors having influence on travel demand to Iran are paper explored. The hypothesis of the research specifies the variable of “domestic upheavals and insecurity” as the most significant obstacle to expansion of the demand for travel to Iran. To test the above hypothesis, first several demand models that have been proposed to study demand for tourism in different countries, ar...
